Swimming Kangaroo & More
|
|
Ok, you hear us talking about Swimming Kangaroo all the time. We have our reasons, and those reasons are not just because I have signed four book contracts with them. They are small and new, but they have high standards and a willingness to look at works that do not fall into tight catagories. Slipstream fiction is not just a theory with them, it is a fact. The books listed below are ones I have read and enjoyed. Swimming Kangaroo has many others which are equally as good, or so I have read in many, many reviews. Go ahead and give them a try. You won't regret it.

Looking Glass Portal by Larriane Wills
Garrett is either in a coma, lost in crazy dreams or just plain crazy, locked in a padded cell living a delusion. Pig-like men don’t come out of thin air with a weapon that punches holes through flesh and bone. There is no such thing as a Thornn research vessel or giant bumble bees called yantz that produce an organic substance to replace missing flesh and bone, and there sure as hell isn’t really a Pegasus. Aliens of all shapes, sizes and colors don't gang up on you and try to kill you. But damn if it didn’t all seem real as real as the constant pain he had lived with for twelve years. Did it even matter? Real or insane delusion, Garrett knew he was in a fight for his life.

Mother Feral's Love by Lawrence Barker
Four Days
That is all the time Evrandal the Feral has to save her child, Broglin, from slavery in the dreaded mines of Tuscum. Four days to rescue a daughter who does not even know Evrandal is her mother.
Evrandal the Feral, a creature half-human and scorned by society, forbidden by Holy Law from entering the Shrine of the Four Mothers, must now journey through the wild deserts of Vrantum to distant cities to find out who killed a somewhat seedy alchemist. She must protect herself from the wild Ghuls, fearsome creatures of the dark, and even has to ally herself with the Falsepaths, heretics who deny the Four Mothers and Holy Law. She must keep the sorcerous Keeppeaces from learning of her quest, and especially must keep them from learning that Broglin is her daughter. She must avoid being compelled by the Keeppeaces to thrust a knife into her own body, taking her own life.
Finally Evrandal must violate Vrantum's highest taboo and cross over the threshold into the Shrine of the Four Mothers, even though doing so condemns her to eternal reincarnation as vermin. She must do all of this to save her daughter. And she must do it in...
Four days.

A couple short story places where Mark has been published

Bewildering Stories
Hey, this is the Baron, and I have to tell you that I really like this place...a lot. It's mission statement reads that Bewildering Stories offers a home and an audience to speculative writing. All genres are welcome in prose, poetry, drama and non-fiction. Well, that mission statement is dead on. They are friendly to readers, extremely helpful to writers, and have some very dedicated editors. It is my honor that they have published several of my stories under my other name, Mark Eller. If you want a good read, this is the place to go.

Demonminds
Want a little bit of the scary? Want to see the other side of life...or death. Demondminds is the place to go, and I have to tell you, these people are pretty cool and they have a great site. Give 'em a try. It's free. Promise. For you writers, Demonminds has proved welcoming and they have a great staff. They were also kind enought to print some of those other Mark Eller stories.
